Bill
At least the White Sox dont play in the same city as the Yankees--and you have to hear about how many championships they have and everybody is Yankee fan or even Red Sox fan.
Im sick of it
This is my blog for the Advanced Technology Course at Emporia State. Please take a look at the poll question for Tuesday ( and more to follow!) and catch up on the news by looking at the news reel at the bottom of the blog!

White Sox
I am a big White Sox fan, and up until now, I have not been watching them much due to the NHL and NBA playoffs. However, now that those are over, I have been paying attention. I do not like what I say. The same problems that have plagued this team for years are still present now. The team slogan for this year is "All In", and one would expect that with the amount of money spent on this year's payroll that this team would be performing much better. Sadly, it has not happened. This team still does not run the bases well, they have lapses defensively, have a hard time hitting with runners in scoring position, and rely too much on the homerun to score runs. It seems that the Sox always play poorly the first month of the season and have to fight like heck to get back into the race. It is very frustrating.
One of the problems with this team is the amount of money tied up in guys who are just not performing. Adam Dunn and Alex Rios are both being paid over 10 million dollars, and they have been absolutely awful. Gordan Beckham has been terrible as well, and they do not have a leadoff hitter. If the Sox do not turn things around in a hurry, players are going to be traded, and people are going to lose their jobs. The attendance numbers are already down for this year, and the payroll is too high to sustain substandard attendance rates. Something has to give, namely the high priced players playing much better, or this team is going to get blown up.

Riots
Is there anything more head scratching than the rioting by the Vancouver fans? I have heard the news reports that the rioters are not necessarily hockey fans, but still. I remember when the Canucks lost in 1994 (remember Pavel Bure?) and the fans rioted then as well. I was rooting for them to win that series, as I am not a fan of the Rangers, but the looting is out of control. It's your own city for crying out loud! And a pretty cool city from what I am told. No sense!!

NFL Lockout
Am I the only one tired of the NFL lockout? Do these guys understand that their game is the unquestioned number 1 game in the country? On top of that, they make millions of dollars playing a kids game!! The real issue at hand is the fact that the players will eventually need the money and the owners know that. The owners are in a position to play a waiting game, and most of the players do not have the discipline or financial smarts to have saved and prepared for something wrong.
Both sides need to put aside their differences, get back to the negotiating table, and solve this problem. People rely on their game; both sides need to wake up.

CrossFit
I recently joined a Crossfit gym where I live, and I enjoyed my time. I had not heard of CrossFit until February of this year, so I thought I would try it. I joined a gym at a discounted monthly fee for 2 months, and I liked the intensity of the workout, and the people were nice. At the end of the 2 month period, I had a choice to reup for $150 a month for 12 months, or at a higher rate for 6 or 3 months respectively.
Needless to say, I did not rejoin. I just could not get passed the fact of paying so much money a month to workout. Don't get me wrong, I liked the experience, and the gym offers its members some added benefits (seminars, get togethers, etc.) but does anyone else think that this is a lot of money to pay to belong to a gym? I do not want to sound disrespectful, but it this type of exercise is so important (which is CrossFit's claim), why is it so expensive to belong to a gym? Keep in mind that a Crossfit affiliate is the best place to do all of the different workouts they require, or come up with. Not that one could not perform these workouts on their own, because they could to an extent.
I am in no way trying to talk bad about CrossFit. I see the many advantages to its methodology. I just can't get over the amount that affiliates charge to me members.

Playoff Hockey
Is there anything better than playoff hockey? The intensity with which these players play is second to none. If you have not been watching, the Stanley Cup Playoffs are going to a game 7 tomorrow night in Vancouver. This is high drama. Both teams have defended their home ice, winning all of their games at home. Boston has demolished Vancouver in Boston by a combined score of 17-3! Tomorrow night's game 7 should be delicious! Vancouver is just a different team at home than they are on the road, so the game should be great!
If you are not a hockey fan, I encourage you to tune in to the game tomorrow night.

Mavs win
Great to see the Mavs win the NBA title last night. Since "The Decision" last summer, to the pep rally after the signings, I have been waiting for those guys to lose. It's not so much that I don't respect their games (all 3 of them are fantastic players) but it's the way they go about their business of being professionals which is so frustrating.
Now, let's hope the Bruins can win tonight and force a game 7 in Vancouver. Go Bruins!! ( I am a Blackhawks fan and absolutely despise the Canucks)!
